Happy summer everybody! It’s here! Edmonton is definitely living up to its reputation as being the best place to be in the summer – festivals galore, great weather, the best people, sweet music, biking trails, farmers markets… The fact that we get to experience it all is best part. You see, it’s been 5 long years and we love you just the same! haha (Did I just do that?) It’s been a few years since our schedule has made room for down time such as this, especially in the summer, and we are soaking it all up.
I say this on the heals of our spring tour which brought us all over BC/AB/SK and on the toes of another short tour which will bring us to all the places we missed in BC, including Vancouver where we’ll be rocking out with local bandits The Broken Mirrors at The Railway Club. You can see exactly where we’ll be by heading to our Shows page. Picture the Ocean will be performing in a couple festivals this month, including Wild Mountain Music Festival and the 10th annual Arts Wells Festival of All Things Art – check out the line-ups!! It’s seriously ridiculous and we are stoked.
PTO will also be heading south to Calgary at Mikey’s Juke Joint. It’ll be relieving to visit friends who’ve overcome the stresses and heartache of being flooded out. I personally can’t imagine what that was like, although I gained a pretty good sense from the odd news broadcast I’d tune into, not to mention YouTube vids folks have posted. To those devastated by the floods in High River, our hearts go out to you. We hope your family is ok Shari Rae. A few Edmonton musicians have been making the weekly trek south to help out in any way, even if its just playing music and bringing smiles. Chloe Albert and Ken Stead – such a wonderful thing to do.
There will be a 2 night fundraiser , July 11/12, here in Edmonton at The Starlite Room hosted by Alberta Music Association. All proceeds will benefit the Alberta Arts Flood Rebuild Fund, “[providing] assistance to the Calgary arts community, supporting artists and arts organizations from across Southern Alberta (such as the Sled Island Music and Arts Festival) as they recover from the devastating impacts of the flood”. If you’d like to read the press release, check it out here. The Facebook event is here. Buy your tickets here and help rebuild. PTO performs July 11 at midnight.
To end, I’d like to say that Picture the Ocean is going strong and we are excited for what is to come. The new songs are sounding epic, there’s an eastern tour on the horizon, we’re feeling better than ever about music and the business, and we’re doing a stand up job of staying healthy at home and on the road. There is talk of recording another album this winter so stay tuned for news on how you’ll be able to contribute! To the North Country Fair, Super Moon 2013 (and to the 6th annual After-Bender Party): thank you for the inspiration and connection – something changed in the hearts of many this year. Oh, and Jesse and I will be tying the proverbial knot come September – eeeeeek! There is just so much to look forward to and at the same time, we are truly looking back on what has been the craziest and emotional of years and realizing how good it is to just be present NOW.
What a ride! We’re glad to be riding along with all of you!
Thanks again and always for your continued support. We’ll see you soon!
